Rideau Township Archives is a municipal archives, managed and staffed
by volunteers. The historical records of Rideau Township's predecessor
municipalities (Marlborough and North Gower Townships, together with their
villages) have been catalogued and microfilmed, and the originals placed
in a climate controlled room. The public is encouraged to study and research
this diverse collection of municipal, business, personal, family and church
records, as well as those of community organizations and newspapers. It
is truly a treasure trove of archival material from an area rich in history.
HERITAGE ADVISORY COMMITTEE
The Heritage Advisory Committee is responsible for liaison and co-ordination
of the programs and activities of the Archives Committee and the Local
Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee (LACAC). In addition, it
provides a communication link between the Municipality and the Rideau Township
Historical Society. The Heritage Advisory Committee reviews all budget
submissions from these and other groups interested in heritage activites,
and prepares recommendations to Council. For further information, please

LOCAL ARCHITECTURAL CONSERVATION
ADVISORY COMMITTEE (LACAC)
This committee of volunteers advises Council on matters relating to
the recognition and designation of heritage buildings and structures. In
addition, the Committee is involved in a wide variety of activities to
document the heritage value of local buildings, and to encourage public
awareness and appreciation of such buildings. For further information on

Rideau Township's excellent library facilites are administered by a
volunteer Public Library Board, and operated by staff and volunteers. Both
libraries offer children story hours as well as programming for older children
and adults. Persons interested in becoming involved in the operations of
the libraries, or in special programming are encouraged to contact the
Librarian and Chief Executive Officer, Verna Preston at 692-3854 or 489-3909.
The Rideau Township Public Library Board meets on a monthly basis. Notice
of Board meetings is published in the Township's agenda advertisements
in the local newspapers. To make a public delegation or representation

ACCESS (CULVERT) PERMIT: An entrance
culvert is required anytime an access to private property is installed
from a Township road. Application for the permit is made to the Works Superintendent.
Call 489-3744 for information.
BUILDING PERMIT: A building permit
is required anytime a building is erected, altered, moved or demolished.
There may be other approvals and permits required depending on the work
being contemplated. For more information, contact the Chief Building Official
at 489-3314.
DOG LICENCE: All dogs over 3 months
of age must be licenced. Licences can be purchased from the Township Hall
or from various retail outlets located throughout the Township during the
months of December to March.
KENNEL LICENCE: A kennel licence
is required to keep more than 3 dogs on a premises, or to operate a breeding
or boarding kennel. Call the Municipal Enforcement Officer at 489-3314
for more information.
LOTTERY LICENCE: The Township will
issue lottery licences (for bingos, raffles and nevada tickets) to non-profit
organizations in support of charitable purposes. Applications for Monte
Carlo Lotteries are made to the Provincial Lotteries Branch through the
Township. For more information contact the Municipal Enforcement Officer
at 489-3314.
REFRESHMENT VEHICLES LICENCE: A
refreshment vehicle licence is required to operate a mobile canteen, chip
wagon, or ice cream vehicle within Rideau Township. An application for
the licence can be submitted to the Municipal Enforcement Officer at 489-3314.
Fees are based upon the classification of the vehicle.
ROAD CUT PERMIT: A road cut permit
is required before any excavation is made of a Township roadway. Applicants
must meet all by-law specifications for reinstatement of the road allowance.
Applictions are made to the Works Superintendent. Call 489-3744 for information.

The Long Island Aquatic Club operates the Rideau Community Pool, located
on the shores of the Rideau River off of South River Drive. The facility
and programs are operated on a non-profit basis, by volunteers with all
surplus funds put back into the facility. Established in 1964, rebuilt
in 1990, facilities include: a 25 metre outdoor pool with 6 lanes, wheelchair

This program offers safe, enjoyable swimming instruction that is fun
and informative for your children. There are 12 levels offered in Aqua
Quest Red Cross Program;and the Royal Life Saving Society Program (Life
